Research Director
Analysis, chaos and
the big picture
Patrick was
born in Leitrim, Ireland in 1972. After earning
his BA in Theoretical Physics, and the MSc
in Electronic & Electrical
Engineering from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland,
he completed a PhD in Mathematics at
the University of Oxford.
Patrick is
currently a Royal Academy of Engineering Research
Fellow with the Department of Engineering Science
and the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied
Mathematics at the University of Oxford. He
is also a visiting Research Fellow at the London School of Economics (LSE).
His research
interests include forecasting, operations research,
data mining, signal processing, nonlinear time
series analysis and
mathematical modelling. Recently, he has been
developing techniques for probabilistic forecasting,
risk assessment, optimization, and the detection
of system failure.
Patrick has
published research papers for leading US and
European institutions such as the Institute
of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE),
the International Institute of Forecasters
(IIF), Nature, the American Physical Society
and others. He has also lectured extensively
on topics including: "Quantifying
Chaos", "Nonlinear Modelling and
Forecasting" and "Biomedical
Models".
At Arrow,
Patrick is focused on developing state-of-the-art
algorithms for sales forecasting, warehouse
and data mining, statistical analysis of critical
business data, and modelling economic and financial
time series.
